PSI seeks candidates for the position of Intern to support program and financial management functions in its Southern Africa Region. Based in Washington, D.C., the Intern will report to an Associate Program Manager in the Southern Africa Region and work with PSI staff in Washington and overseas.  Tasks will include a variety of programmatic as well as financial tasks.  The position requires flexibility and willingness to assume varied duties and projects and offers an opportunity to assist PSI staff on a variety of projects in international social marketing, international development and public health. This position will require at least 32 hours per week, beginning in September, for a minimum of 3 months with the possibility of extending. This is a paid position. This internship will support these efforts through various projects and administrative tasks.

Your contribution

The intern will:

  • Maintain regional knowledge management system, update and maintain departmental organization chart, regional contact lists, and other external information materials
  • Serving as the main point of contact for internal and external requests for information, and providing prompt and clear responses
  • Tracking of programmatic and financial deliverables in country platforms
  • Collect necessary documentation for raising and organizing purchase orders and processing purchase orders and invoice payments for consultants, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Process vendor and consultant invoices generated both through DC and the country offices.
  • Assisting with domestic and international travel arrangements, including expense report preparation, hotel reservations, visa applications, drafting necessary invitation letters and arranging meeting schedules for international staff visiting DC
  • Helping with the logistics of HQ and overseas staff as needed
  • Scheduling and managing departmental meetings and functions
  • Organizing departmental events in DC and abroad
  • Process payroll and non-payroll adjustments
  • Reconcile corporate credit card expenses
  • Assist with scanning, printing, copying and faxing needs and assist department staff with incoming and outgoing mail services
  • Fulfilling other programmatic and administrative functions as required


What are we looking for?

  • BA in a related area of study
  • Strong interest in International Development, Public Health, and working in a NGO environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • One to two years experience working in a fast‑paced office environment
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Computer & Technical Literacy - Advanced computer skills (MS Office application, including Word and Excel)
  • Strong organizational skills and a willingness to support the team administratively
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English (French or Portuguese skills are a plus)
