Population Services International (PSI) seeks a full-time paid Washington, DC-based intern able to work 40 hours/week to support the Finance Department.  This internship provides an opportunity to work with PSI staff with a focus in accounts receivable.  Additional tasks would be supporting accounts payable and audit creating a unique opportunity to have a short-term rotation experience in the Finance operations of PSI. PSI offers flexible working hours and a dynamic, creative, and progressive work environment. The internship will start as soon as possible, for a period of three months, with possible extension up to six months.

Your contribution


The Finance Intern will have a variety of duties and will work on a variety of projects related to supporting PSI’s activities. 

  • Assist in the daily operations of accounts receivable, including the following:
    • Prepare and enter cash receipt transactions into the accounts receivable module, which include D.C. and field cash receipts from donors, projects containing advances, and donations;
    • Research and identify support for cash receipts to ensure appropriate application of funds received;
    • Submit all cash receipts and appropriate backup for approval and posting to the accounts receivable module.
  • Assist in various accounts payable tasks, including the following:
    • Verification of vendor between ERP system and bank;
    • Vendor clean-up for year-end 1099s;
    • Review of statements and follow up with vendors.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities, as requested.
  • Collect documentation from various sources to support audit requests.
  • Work on special projects and other tasks, as requested.


We want someone that

  • Has completed at least 2 years towards an accounting degree at an accredited university, including the completion of Accounting I and Accounting II
  • Has excellent organization and administrative skills with special attention to detail
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work independently and on a team in a cooperative, problem-solving capacity
  • Has excellent communication skills, including strong writing skills
  • Brings substantial experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Can multitask and prioritize multiple tasks based on deadlines
