The Southern Africa (SA) team is known for our social enterprises and innovations in HIV- related work, including self-testing and VMMC.  Programming also includes family planning, malaria, WASH and non-communicable disease screening and treatment.  Currently, we have programs operating in Lesotho, Madagascar, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, Angola and Mozambique and a continuing partnership with our network member in Namibia.

 

PSI seeks seeks qualified, dynamic candidates for a temporary full-time Program Manager for the Southern Africa regional support team.  The timeframe for this temporary posting begins around February and lasts for 3-4 months thereafter.  The position requires significant expertise in project management including; planning, budget design & tracking, deliverables monitoring and compliance.  A working  knowledge of various funders including CDC, DoD, USAID, DFID, Dutch and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is strongly preferred.  The position also entails  supervision of two Associate Program Managers

Responsibilities

Your contribution

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the various technical, operational, financial and administrative needs of Zambia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Angola and Namibia are being met by liaising with the Associate Program Managers (APM) and developing relationships with the field and support departments;
  • Provide guidance to APMs and assistance in oversight of the programs listed above.
  • Assisting with managing communications with overseas staff when necessary.
  • Providing guidance to Associate Program Managers with respect to problem solving.
  • Supporting and contributing to New Business Development opportunities, including supporting Associate Program Managers with developing donor budgets and leading on cost proposals.
  • Reviewing and commenting on programmatic reports
  • Supporting the Associate Program Managers in budget management across all country programs listed above, with budget realignments, cost and no-cost extensions and other administrative, financial and programmatic matters arising.
  • Some international travel to the region may be required

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

The Basics:

  • Relevant Master’s degree (MBA, MPA, MPH, etc) or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience related to international development (international health preferred)
  • Two years working in a developing country strongly preferred
  • Exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Significant experience in developing and monitoring budgets; experience with pay for performance awards a plus
  • Demonstrated management capacity in a fast paced work environment
  • Demonstrated experience with international donors and familiarity with international development and health issues; experience with USAID, CDC, DOD, DFID, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation highly preferred
  • Fluency in English is required; fluency in French and/or Portuguese highly desired.
