PSI’s seeks a dynamic, results-oriented, business-minded, technical sanitation consultant to support the global WASH team in documenting and codifying the existing product systems (toilets, slab, SATO Pan, septic tanks, soak away pits, etc.) from both a technical, cost, and business perspective. The position will require fluency in English and French and will report to the Senior Technical Advisor for WASH.

Using their expertise and knowledge of engineering, business, and local construction in varying contexts, the consultant will:

Sand and gravel pack differences in quality make concrete ring production different in Senegal than in Cambodia. The costing report should be provided in both a Word and Excel format.
    • Provide a business analysis report of the existing product systems that includes description of the business models associated with the product systems and potentials for improvements and cost reductions.
    • Provide a technical analysis report of the existing product systems that includes why there are differences between product systems and make recommendations if / how they might be streamlined to improve cost and efficiencies.
    • Produce visuals of the product systems that can be used in communications and marketing materials and for promoting the product systems to WASH sector players, NGOs, UNICEF, World Bank, etc.
    • Provide a complete set of technical drawings (in English and French) for all product systems so that a local entrepreneur, building contractor, or mason could look at the drawings and replicate the product systems.
    • Write an abstract (which PSI will submit to a future conference) and a 2-3 page story (with photos and visuals) for publication by PSI describing the key learnings from the consultancy.

    • Obtain and review all existing technical and costing documents on the product systems
    • Remotely interview the project teams (PSI and its partners) in India, Ethiopia, Mali, Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, Benin, and Ghana to clarify information about the product system, input materials, costs, business aspects, and production processes.
