    The Family Planning (FP) and Reproductive Health (RH) Department supports programs in 37 countries (and counting) to deliver high-quality family planning and safe abortion services to women and girls. We protect our clients’ sexual & reproductive health rights by ensuring informed choice, voluntarism, client confidentiality & privacy, client safety and continuity of care. PSI seeks an Associate Program Manager (APM) for a USAID-funded family planning project, Support for International Family Planning and Health Organizations: Sustainable Networks (SIFPO 2), to support program management functions. The APM will have wide-ranging responsibilities and work with PSI staff at all levels both in Washington and overseas. The ideal candidate is someone who will pro-actively meet programmatic needs, can juggle multiple, competing priorities, and will enthusiastically ensure smooth and timely flow of work. This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the SIFPO2 Program Manager.

    Your contribution

    The responsibilities of this position vary greatly and require a great deal of flexibility and self-direction!  Some examples include:


    Support project planning and execution

    • Assist with reporting, core work planning and new field support workplan development under the direction of the SIFPO2 Deputy Director, Program Manager, and Technical Advisors.
    • Contribute to programmatic decision-making for the project with the SIFPO2 Core team.
    • Respond to donor and other requests by gathering, distilling and disseminating relevant information from SIFPO2 country teams. 
    • Support project closeout, coordinating processes with PSI’s Grants and Contracts, Procurement, and Finance departments and adhering to applicable USAID regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Support Activity Managers in tracking Core program deliverables, obligations and budgets.
    • Takes primary responsibility for the review and processing of subaward invoices
    • Support program management support to the field, including providing technical reviews of reports (or securing technical review if not family planning), participating in regular country check-in calls, coordinating TA needs, monitoring workplan activity progress, and helping the in-country team achieve project deliverables
    • Create systematic and effective lines of communications between the SIFPO2 Core Team and Market Groups.
    • Provide or coordinate logistics and support for team meetings, technical trainings and workshops, etc.
    • Update, edit, and improve internal knowledge management resources.
    • Research selected topics, particularly RH service delivery, health marketing, or communications topics as requested by SIFPO2 to assist in development of SIFPO2 documents.
    • Copy edit and support the technical review process for training modules, playbooks or briefs as requested by Technical Advisors or project leadership.
    • Prepare presentations for technical meetings.

    Provide programmatic support to SIFPO2 fiscal management

    • Support in the technical and programmatic review of project finances, including financial reports, budgets, spending analyses, realignments, and subawards, in close coordination with the Financial Analyst and Program Manager.
    • Update and monitor tools to track spending.

    The basics:

    • A least three years relevant work experience, including experience in program management and budgeting and a strong interest in technical work.
    • Passion for working on family planning; previous experience in this area is highly preferred.
    • Master’s degree in a relevant subject (MPH, MBA, MIA, etc.) and some overseas work experience.
    • Effortlessly perform a variety of tasks on short notice within designated deadlines and keep cool under pressure.
    • Highly organized and a self-starter. You strive to make systems better.
    • Fluency in English. Ability to work in Spanish or French a plus.
    • References will be required.
    • The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.
    • Must be authorized to work in the US.
