PSI’s seeks a Program Assistant (PA) to support our operational excellence and execution of quality and standards by providing wide-ranging administrative and operational support to the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Department. The PA will liaise with global technical and service departments and network members/country project teams to support routine administrative needs and daily activities and contribute to successful delivery of SRH projects and department-level initiatives. This position will support the Women’s Health Project (WHP), A360 Amplify Project, and the SRH Quality of Care teams, with some administrative support to the broader SRH department. You help keep these teams organized, energized, and ready to tackle any challenge that come our way.

  • The Women’s Health Project core team leads a large and dynamic safe abortion project, implemented in 15 countries around the world. 
  • The Quality of Care team provides vision and support to PSI’s global, regional, and bilateral SRH programs to create and maintain Quality of Care systems that always place the client at the center.
  • A360 Amplify works across four countries to adapt and integrate aspirational ASRH programming into government health systems. You help keep these teams organized, energized, and ready to tackle any challenge that come our way.

The ideal candidate is someone who will proactively meet administrative and project needs, can juggle multiple, competing priorities, and will enthusiastically ensure smooth and timely flow of work. This position is based in Washington, D.C.


Your contribution

  • Provides routine administrative support for daily operations, project management, and general functioning of assigned portfolio.
  • Provides basic financial management support, including assisting with basic team budget management, procurement and payment of consultants, vendors, subrecipients and other services, and management and reconciliation of purchasing card.
  • Provides support for knowledge management activities, including the design of tools and systems for knowledge management and information tracking, creation and maintenance of internal filing systems, maintenance of online communications site(s), and development of communications materials.


What are we looking for?

The basics:

  • Associate's degree (or international equivalent) in a related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field preferred.
  • Some work experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in international health and development issues.
  • Commitment to safe abortion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office applications.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills with special attention to detail and timeliness.
  • A multi-tasking machine.
  • A team player and self-starter who can work gracefully under pressure.
  • You stay positive when things are difficult, manage your time effectively, and communicate with your team efficiently about your workload.
  • References will be required. The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. N.B. PSI will not consider work visa sponsorship for this position.

What would get us excited?

  • French language skills.
  • Previous experience working on safe abortion and/or sexual and reproductive health projects.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and data visualization, with an eye for creativity.
