PSI’s External Communications department positions the organization as a thought-leader and development NGO of the future. The priority audiences for PSI outreach include:

· The donors, who are critical to ensuring PSI’s ability to scale consumer-powered healthcare

· The 8,000 passionate professionals across the world who comprise the PSI team

 

The Director, EC will be responsible for:

Corporate Communications. Leading a team of talented, multi-disciplinary communications professionals, the Director will oversee the development and implementation of PSI’s communications strategy, including organizational messaging and positioning, public relations/earned media, owned media (in particular, Impact magazine), social media community management, email marketing, event support, website content, thought leadership, and collateral material development.

Practice Communications. The Director will manage the Head of Practice Communications. Together, the team will work with technical leadership in priority areas (e.g. Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria) to create communications workplans, develop templates and tools, and help to build communications capacity.

Internal communications. The Director will identify and manage the most efficient platforms and tools to provide PSI’s 8,000 person staff with regular, meaningful and consistent information about activity across the organization. Coordinating closely with the Chief of Staff to the CEO, the Director will support two-way communication between senior leadership and staff.

Creative Services. The Director will oversee PSI’s brand and aesthetic identity. All strategic graphic design of digital and print materials, including technical and marketing materials will be led by the Director and supported by the current, three-person design team. 

 

Your contributions

  • Oversee the development and implementation of PSI's communications strategy ensuring alignment with PSI’s Global Strategy and Fundraising BluePrint. Prepare the department's annual operating budget, ensuring it is aligned with departmental strategy. 25% of Time
  • Supervise and develop team members. Make recommendations concerning employment, termination, performance evaluations, salary actions, and other personnel actions. Set team and individual goals. Prioritize, organize, delegate, and coordinate the flow of work. Enhance individual employee performance through frequent and timely communication and support. 15% of Time
  • Oversee communications activities related to organizational messaging and positioning. Ensure key messages and marketing collateral maintain brand integrity while supporting PSI's Global Strategy and amplifying strategic insights. 15% of Time
  • Oversee PSI's media relations, digital footprint, and social media presence. Manage media relations and develop contacts with media members, influencers, and community leaders. Track and build engagement across all of PSI’s social media communities and platforms. Ensure website content and technology platforms remain up-to-date. Ensure all other activities related to owned media (in particular, Impact magazine), email marketing, and event support are aligned with the communications strategy. 15% of Time
  • Identify and manage platforms and tools to provide PSI’s global employee population with regular, meaningful and consistent information about activity across the organization. Coordinate closely with the Chief of Staff to the CEO to support two-way communication between senior leadership and staff. 10% of Time
  • Work closely with the Head, Practice Communications and technical leadership in priority areas (e.g. Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS, and Malaria) to create program and project-focused communications workplans, develop templates and tools, and help to build communications capacity across PSI's global employee population. 10% of Time
  • Oversee PSI’s brand and aesthetic identity. Supervise the design team responsible for producing digital and print materials including technical and marketing materials. Support the creation of digital, video, audio and print content. 10% of Time

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field
  • At least 15 years of related experience. Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted.
  • At least 7 years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent writing and editing experience and the ability to translate complex issues for a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent  analytical and problem solving skills. Able to proactively identify opportunities, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, translate business requirements, and implement client-centered and evidence-based solutions.
  • Excellent customer service, relationship building/management and consensus building skills.
  • Broad knowledge of social and digital media strategy and marketing best practices. Broad knowledge of social and digital media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, website development and content).
  • Established media relations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Excellent leadership and staff capacity building skills with the ability to lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of content management systems and digital graphics production. Familiarity with graphic design technologies and tools including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro).
  • Solid knowledge of international development and health issue best practices and trends, and their impact on communication strategy.
