This provides an opportunity to contribute to defining and shaping value proposition in the market, working very closely with multiple implementing partners and the Ministry of Health. This is building on thirty years of solid delivery in a market where PSI is a well-established and respected brand. With a high and growing demand for technical assistance in the health space in Malawi, PSI has a huge opportunity for growth as a leading voice on technical assistance provision.

PSI seeks a Senior Advisor I, Technical that will Support the technical functions of a technical department, project, or network member, including leading or managing the implementation of technical activities in line with PSI and global best practices.  Involved in and may lead the design of technical activities and strategy of a technical department, project, or network member. Contribute to and may lead internal capacity building efforts across the PSI network. An internal and external thought leader in their field.

What You'll Do

• Technical: Lead or manage the development of the department's, project's, or network member's technical activities and strategy. Provide remote and in-country technical assistance to build capacity of network members to effectively deliver results in line with PSI and global best practices and the department's, the project's, or network member's technical strategy. Analyze evidence to determine best practices. Provide subject matter expertise in a specific technical area to the department, project, or network member. Lead development and implementation of the department's, project's, or network member's workplans in collaboration with program management team. Manage report writing and development of technical guidance.  
• Representation: Engage with donors and represent PSI in external forums. Convey PSI's work in written and verbal form. Participate in technical conversations and meetings convened by donors.
  • Support capacity building of network member and project consortium staff and partners engaged in activities related to SBC, HCD and marketing area of expertise.
  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with external stakeholders and partners, including with Ministry of Health, Technical Working Groups, conferences and policy-oriented forums.
• Thought Leadership / Knowledge Management: Engage with other departments within PSI and contribute to internal decision-making as a subject matter expert. Engage externally to represent PSI and demonstrate technical expertise, capacity and experience in a specific technical area. Develop new tools/frameworks or content for publications (e.g. blogs, manuscripts, etc.) that demonstrate PSI's technical expertise and experience in a specific technical area.
• Fundraising: Contribute to new business development by writing or reviewing proposals, as well as identifying new funding opportunities. May lead large and / or complex bids.
• Program Management: Manage technical workstreams. Provide subject matter expertise while ensuring that all milestones and deliverables are met.
  • Develop scope of work and participate in supplier assessment in liaison with procurement and project leads. Develop monitoring guidelines for agency/ consultant work to ensure quality execution and cost efficiency. Support consultant in navigating implementation and relationships with funder, government and other implementers as needed. Review consultant outputs and support synthesis of knowledge products
  • Work closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to design strategies to continually monitor and adapt SBC and VMCC activities.
• People Management: May manage people; provide coaching and mentoring to staff.

What You'll Bring

• Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field (e.g., MPH, MSc, MPP, MPA, MBA)
• At least 10 years of related experience. Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted.
• Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge in relevant technical area.
• Ability to contribute to thought leadership in relevant technical area. 
• Ability to contribute to the internal and external body of evidence in relevant technical area.
• Ability to provide technical assistance to PSI network.
• Ability to share knowledge internally and externally with global communities of practice; represents PSI externally.
• Ability to solve problems with creativity and analyze complex issues using in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
• Ability to operate with minimal supervision and considerable latitude for independent judgement to achieve desired outcomes.
• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external colleagues. Able to work as a member of a team and independently.
• Self-starter.
• Ability to lead development of technical approach for proposals and identify potential new business opportunities.
• Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
• Demonstrate emotional intelligence and ability to collaborate with colleagues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Familiarity with a quantitative or qualitative data analysis program preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency in a relevant language other than English preferred.

Salary Ranges:*

PSI is committed to pay equity and transparency. We ensure pay meets the market within each country. This approach minimizes our impact on local talent markets and allows PSI to attract and retain employees, while staying cost-competitive.

Actual base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, experience, internal equity, external market analysis, and other business factors permitted by law. Hiring above the mid-point of the range below would not be typical in order to allow for potential future salary growth.

PSI is offering the following gross annual salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

• For International Assignees** (paid in USD): $82,000 (minimum) - $102,000 (midpoint) - $122,000 (maximum)

*For applicants applying outside of the US: please note that those hired outside of the US will be employed through the local PSI office. Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role and practices of the local office, including payment in local currency. Details will be provided during interview process.
**For International Assignees: Candidates approved to receive expatriate packages will receive the appropriate compensation and allowance package. Details will be provided during interview process.
