From 2008 to 2017 the PSI-led research project ACTwatch served as the most reliable source of nationally representative market data on antimalarial and diagnostic commodities across 12 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and the Greater Mekong Subregion. Supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, PSI is updating its ACTwatch model to collect novel private sector market data beginning in 2022. ACTwatch Lite will leverage a digital ecosystem to reduce fieldwork timelines and minimize the gap between the end of fieldwork and availability of study results. Updated results will inform national and subnational decision-making and serve as the basis of define and monitor private sector malaria interventions. ACTwatch Lite will be implemented in three countries (Benin, Cameroon, and Nigeria) over the next two years, led by PSI’s Malaria Department, country teams and national partners. The project is expected to begin in August this year, but the start date is contingent on contract signature. PSI seeks an Advisor II, Research that will lead and support the design, research quality and ethical compliance of fit-for-purpose research across the ACTwatch Lite portfolio. The Advisor II, Research will serve as a research focal point for the project and support teams in the use of research results. The role may support other technical functions (marketing, monitoring, learning) with research support on key initiatives.

Through its Health Systems Accelerator (HSA), PSI aims to intensify its support to governments in low- and middle-income countries in their efforts to move towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). PSI will do so by adopting a distinct approach that complements the work of other actors operating in the health systems strengthening (HSS) landscape.    HSA seeks an energetic and creative candidate to provide operational oversight for a USD $4-million three-year investment called the Self-Care Trailblazer Group (SCTG), made possible with the generous support of the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. The SCTG is a global membership coalition established in November 2018 to advance the evidence, practice, learning, and policy landscape of self-care. PSI houses the staff that make up the SCTG Secretariat, which supports the coalition-building functions for the SCTG, including operations, administration, communications, outreach, and global advocacy. The Secretariat also oversees deliverables for the SCTG’s programmatic elements and reporting to donors.     The SCTG aims to fast-track self-care policy and practice in five early-adopter countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Much of the SCTG’s in-country work is directly implemented by subrecipient partners who engage with local governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and Uganda to advance a self-care agenda. Altogether, SCTG currently oversees four country-specific subrecipients in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, and Uganda, as well as a fifth subrecipient whose scope is focused on capturing and sharing cross-cutting advocacy learnings. The department also builds the capacity of PSI’s country platforms to prepare proposals.   We are looking for a SeniorManager, IFthat will manage all aspects of proposal development for large, organizationally strategic, and global proposals by leading a team of field and headquarters staff to conduct capture planning, program design, and proposal writing; this includes establishing and enforcing timelines, designating roles and responsibilities, identifying and negotiating with partner organizations, coordinating inputs, and overseeing proposal submission. Specifically, the PMI VectorLink Project will build the capacity of country governments to use epidemiological, entomological, and coverage data to support the optimal deployment of vector control tools within each country context while promoting gender equity in all facets of planning and implementation. The primary objective of ITN durability monitoring is to estimate the average useful life of ITNs distributed through mass distribution campaigns by considering the effects of attrition and physical integrity on ITNs. The studies also monitor insecticidal effectiveness and aim to describe major behavioral aspects of net care and repair and their impact on ITN durability outcomes. Studies have a prospective study design with up to 4 rounds of data collection over 3 years and PMI VectorLink is implementing durability monitoring in more than a dozen countries.

PSI has established a new branch office in Zimbabwe after supporting the 23 year old PSI/Zimbabwe Trust – now renamed Population Solutions for Health – to achieve full financial and operational independence as a deeply rooted Zimbabwean owned, governed and managed organization.  The new PSI branch office oversees an annual operation budget of $30M and remains with prime award responsibility across multiple existing funding streams with PEPFAR/USAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Sweden, with PSH moving into an independent subpartner role on six programs leading service delivery in HIV and SRHR programming, VMMC sustainability, and client centered campaigns to address social norms in Zimbabwe.  PSI has an essential strategic and technical role to play in providing light touch TA to the mixed health system in the areas of insight gathering and application for improved consumer-centered programming, digital health and monitoring, and adaptive implementation and learning, including support for world class documentation and dissemination of the lessons learned, best practices, approaches and tools developed to catalyze communities of practice in Zimbabwe and beyond.   PSI has a role to play in implementation areas unique to the international organization, such as independent fundholding under results based financing of HIV service delivery and safe abortion advocacy, education and communications.  The high capacity, deeply rooted PSI – PSH partnership has tremendous potential to deliver together on the vision of achieving consumer powered health care through shaping mixed health systems, shifting policy and funding, and strengthening capacity within the Zimbabwe mixed health system and beyond.
