Who we are
PSI is a US-based organization that makes it easier for people in the developing world to lead healthier lives and plan families they desire by marketing affordable products and services. PSI have 65 network members across the developing world to help strengthen health systems in the private and public sector with proven business practices like marketing and franchising. Bahmni was selected as the solution to be implemented in the project facilities in Zimbabwe.
Bahmni is an Open Source Software product that allows hospitals and other healthcare providers in low resourced settings to access quality eHealth information systems. It offers functionality covering clinical, administrative and reporting functions of a hospital namely registration, laboratory management, billing, bed management, patient record management, clinical diagnosis, drug orders and treatments.
Bahmni is a browser-based application built using HTML5. It has been designed to be used on tablets, mobile and desktop devices. The system is primarily designed to save doctors’ time and can run in low resource intensive areas requiring only one low-end server sufficient for a mid-size hospital. It is Linux based and comes with full automation of provisioning, deployment, monitoring and maintenance. The technology stack includes OpenMRS (Java, Relational DB, REST API), OpenERP (Python, CherryPy, Postgres, XML API), and OpenELIS (Java, Postgres, REST API).
Currently, configuration, testing and deployment of the application have been carried out, including UAT and launch into the PSI server. Continued activities for training and technical support with the tool are necessary to continue full deployment at all the facilities, as well as a complete review of the current system for proposed recommendations and identification of gaps for capacity development.
